Atthe people conference, the deputy ister of Immigration and Population Department - U Win Min - presents that there are more than 1.1 millon people in Myanmar who have not registered and applied for the national identity according to the census.
At the conference, when one of the members asked U Win Min, he replied that the immigration office cannot grant these immigrants national identity because they tend to move to different places where they can get a job and the relevant departments cannot issue necessary documents. U Win Min said that they need cooperation from other state governments to register and issue national identifications for these immigrants.
U Win Min said that Yangon tends to have most of the immigrants among different states in the country. Because of the job reason, most of the immigrants reside in the rural areas of Yangon such as ShwePyiTha, Dan Ta Pyin, Tike Gyi, Hlae Ku and Tune Tale. The census points out that there are more than 30 thousand immigrant families and 160 thousand people who came to Yangon without having registered with immigration. Up to 2013 December 31, the immigration department have registered more than 7 thousand people.
